BC Place

BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, is one of the most recognizable stadiums in North America, thanks to its distinctive cable-supported retractable roof that resembles a spider web of steel and glass. Home to the BC Lions (CFL) and Vancouver Whitecaps (MLS), this venue was the centerpiece of the 2010 Winter Olympics and has hosted some of Canada's most significant sporting events. For World Cup 2026, BC Place will host matches against the spectacular backdrop of Vancouver's mountains and harbor. Vancouver's strong Asian community and Pacific Rim location make it a natural gateway for fans traveling from Asia.

Stadium History

Opened in 1983 for Expo 86, BC Place underwent a $563 million renovation in 2011 that replaced the original air-supported roof with the current retractable cable system — the largest of its kind in the world. It hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics opening and closing ceremonies, the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup final (where the USA defeated Japan 5-2), and multiple Grey Cup championships. The Whitecaps have played here since joining MLS in 2011, building one of Canada's most passionate soccer fan bases.

Did You Know?

The stadium's retractable roof is the largest cable-supported retractable roof in the world. When fully open, the roof retracts into the center of the stadium, creating an opening the size of a football field. The original air-supported roof famously deflated in 2007 due to a tear caused by accumulated snow and ice.
