Lincoln Financial Field
Lincoln Financial Field — 'The Linc' — is home to the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, whose famously passionate (and demanding) fan base rivals any football supporters' group in the world for intensity and dedication. Philadelphia's soccer culture has exploded in recent years, driven by the Philadelphia Union's success in MLS and the city's growing immigrant communities. For World Cup 2026, The Linc will host multiple matches, and visiting teams can expect a hostile reception — Philadelphia fans are legendary for making opposing teams uncomfortable. The stadium's location in the Northeast Corridor provides easy rail access from New York, Washington DC, and Boston.
Stadium History
Opened in 2003 to replace Veterans Stadium, Lincoln Financial Field has hosted the Philadelphia Eagles' resurgence including their Super Bowl LII victory season. It has hosted the NCAA Lacrosse Championships, major concerts (including the Eagles' own Bruce Springsteen), and international soccer matches. The Eagles' passionate fan base set a world record for 'loudest crowd roar' here — before Kansas City later reclaimed it.
Did You Know?
“The stadium was built on the site of the old Philadelphia Naval Hospital. During construction, workers uncovered artifacts from the hospital's 19th-century history. Eagles fans once threw snowballs at Santa Claus during a game at the old Veterans Stadium — a moment that captured national attention and cemented Philadelphia's reputation for passionate (and occasionally unforgiving) fandom.”
